This conference is organised by SCAS member, Angela Barker, and focuses on the role of animals and nature in supporting mental health. Angela developed Canine Befrienders, which arranges canine visits to local psychiatric facilities. Other SCAS members who are presenting include Belinda Johnston of Our Special Friends, and Rebecca Leonardi of Paws for Progress. SCAS Chairperson, Dr. Elizabeth Ormerod will deliver a keynote presentation on the origins of AAI in mental health from ancient times and through the ages to our present knowledge. Dr. Ormerod will share case studies from her work in prisons and psychiatric settings and discuss the potential of humane education.
