Postdoctoral research position open at Lincoln University, UK to study human-dog interactions.
‘A current key animal welfare concern is the increasing popularity of brachycephalic (flat-faced) dogs. Despite the efforts of working groups and a number of campaigns, little progress has been made in reducing demand for this breed. This multidisciplinary study will identify how potential owners become attracted to these breeds, despite their recognised problems, and how they reconcile these issues.’

Location:  Lincoln
Salary:   From £34,304 pro rata
Please note this role is fixed term until 31 May 2023, and part time at 0.4 FTE.

Many people struggled with restrictions on time with friends and family and just being among people less often in their workplaces or communities. As people spent more time at home, headlines spoke of the surge in pets being acquired for company, to offset loneliness and isolation, conditions described as an epidemic of our times, and that was before COVID19 came along.

Participants sought for a SCAS-funded project into Pets and Rental Housing Properties

Ross Barker is a graduate student in Public Policy at Oregon State University, conducting a SCAS-funded research into pets and rental housing.  If you are a letting agent, property manager, or landlord for one or more rental housing properties in England or Scotland, the team would love to interview you for their research. All input remains confidential. Participants in the research will receive a gift card with a value of £50 GBP and will also receive a summary of research results upon request. Please reach out to Ross Barker at barkeros@oregonstate.edu if you would be willing to share your point of view. The interviews have typically been taking 40-55 minutes. Thank you.

Participants are sought who fit the following general criteria:

  • Rental housing property managers, landlords, or letting agents
  • Metro areas (urban or suburban) in England
  • Have knowledge of property policies, including those related to pets

Call for Posters to be presented at the 2022 SCAS Conference, ‘Pet Friendly Housing: How can we keep people and pets together?’ on Sunday 18th September 2022 (Online).

Abstracts are now being accepted for posters related to the subject of pet-friendly housing (rental accommodation, nursing homes, temporary shelter). Please submit abstracts to info@scas.org.uk by Wednesday 30 June 2022 and type ‘SCAS2022 Poster’ in the email subject line. All abstracts must be submitted in English, the official language of the conference.
