If you are coming along to our 2019 Conference on Saturday 21 September 2019, why not combine it with a visit to nearby People & Animals Networking day on Friday 20 September 2019?
People & Animals UK are a Community Interest Company, specialising in providing Animal-Assisted Interventions in the form of therapy, education, activities, as well as practical training and professional networking days since 2013.
Supporting people of all ages to overcome the emotional, behavioural, social or physical barriers that they may face towards their own wellbeing, People & Animals works with organisations such as; Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambian Healthcare, Kisimul Group, Clarion Housing, Richmond Fellowship, regard, FACET, and many more, across schools, hospitals, children’s centres, and community centres. The small team of 4 now support over 100 local people each week across their wide range of projects.
Recorded outcomes include; increasing self-esteem, raising aspiration, development of life skills for improved access to education and employment, improved access to community and statutory services, enhanced sense of connectedness amongst those most isolated, reduced social anxiety, and a stronger sense of pride amongst all local people.
“The dogs make me feel happier about myself and my future” – isolated young person in the community.
“Talking therapies did not appeal to me, but through gardening, I not only felt part of something exciting, but I also realised that I had a skill to share with new friends, I found a renewed sense of positivity” – feedback from a local woman affected by depression as she adapts to life in a wheelchair.
With Wisbech Town Council offering a 30-year lease on a 7-acre plot, for the team to now build a site for the development of their therapeutic programmes, opening with the support of the @one alliance team involving Anglian Water, and a number of local businesses, schools, councils and funders, this Summer 2019! A bespoke therapeutic farm facility, built for local people, by local people.
The team would love to invite those with an interest in Human-Animal Interaction, to visit Wisbech Community Farm, on the 20th September 2019, as a precursor to the Conference on the 21st September hosted by SCAS, to celebrate the diversity of this field whilst raising discussion surrounding how we can work together to provide wide scale, sustainable solutions for the declining wellbeing of young people in the UK.
Bringing professionals across the health, social care, education and animal welfare sectors together, we have a day full of interesting ideas to explore and discuss with like-minded people.
The aim of the event is to provide an insight into establishing community-based approaches to working, along with networking opportunities, a time to learn and share ideas, working together to raise standards of best practise and develop the field further within the UK. There is also an option to share information about the work that you do, free of charge.
